Ahoy
To further develop boating and sailing facilities together with training on the Deptford waterfront. To continue to take positive action to ensure that the AHOY Centre is able to offer, through subsidised sailing and training, opportunities for everyone to have access to the Thames and to participate in water-based sports.
The AHOY is a charity which has established a sailing and boating centre on Greenwich Reach. The centre caters for all the community – young, disabled and retired alike. It offers them all the experience, opportunities and new horizons gained through water based activities – plus the opportunity to learn to sail, race, row, build and maintain boats.
The Centre is a recognised RYA teaching establishment and 'Sailability' Centre and provides professional training towards recognised qualifications. The AHOY offers its Volunteer Members the opportunity to train for a career in water sports and to compete in sailing and boating events. The vision for The Ahoy Centre is of a "Flagship" enterprise situated close to the heart of the City which provides excellent facilities for the newcomer to this sport as well as offering exciting sailing for the more experienced sailor.
There is a high focus on teamwork and personal development and the centre is becoming the focus of activity for the local community. At all times The AHOY Centre endorses the principle of ‘members helping other members’ and encourages those aged 16 plus to become qualified as Assistant Instructors, Safety Boat Officers, Dinghy Instructors, etc.
