In November 1969, a group of Parents who tragically lost their children after a riding accident on Cleethorpes Beach formed the organisation once known as the Cleethorpes Vigilantes Inshore Lifeboat Service. It was formed to support and assist the Coast Guard, Police and Council with duties where extra help is needed around the resort. The sort of duties they perform included Beach Searches, assistance with Flood Relief, Search and Rescue at sea.
Cleethorpes Rescue as it is known today, operates purely by unpaid volunteers and gets most of its funding through the generosity of the local business people, community organisations and importantly through Public Donations. They do this in various ways through out the year, including community projects such as visiting schools, running stalls, open days and events, they have also set up an RYA training centre to help fund Cleethorpes Rescue.
Over the years the funding raised has helped them equip the service with Premises, Lifeboats, Tractors, all the safety equipment required to fulfil their role, which has now become an important part of the safety and security of the users of the Cleethorpes resort as well at the waters around the Humber Estuary.
The main area they will cover is between Immingham Docks to North Coates across to Spurn Point and back to Hawkins Point. During the summer months they will also do regular beach patrols ensuring the safety of swimmers and individuals using power craft offshore.
